How this free numerology course online works

Numerology is the belief in a mystical relationship between numbers and events. Modern scientists regard it as pseudomathematics or pseudoscience, as Wikipedia's "List of topics characterized as pseudoscience" notes, and this course treats it that way: you will learn the calculations as a method and the meanings as traditional interpretations, not as predictions.

What you need

Your full name as written on your birth certificate, your date of birth, and 15 to 20 minutes per lesson. The maths is only addition. Each lesson follows the same pattern: a one-line goal, the method, a worked example, one exercise and a self-check answer.

Pythagorean or Chaldean: which to learn first

This course uses Pythagorean numerology, the system named after the Greek philosopher Pythagoras, which maps the Latin alphabet to the numbers 1 to 9 in order. Chaldean numerology, associated with Cheiro (1866-1936), the Irish astrologer, palmist and numerologist who said he learned it in India, uses a different letter chart and is common in Indian name numerology. Lesson 1: The letter chart and digit reduction

Goal: turn any word or number into a single digit.

Method: give each letter its value from the chart below, add them up, then add the digits of the total until one digit remains. This is called digit reduction. The idea of giving letters number values is old; Hebrew gematria is a well-known related practice.

Worked example: RAVI. R = 9, A = 1, V = 4, I = 9. Total 9 + 1 + 4 + 9 = 23. Reduce: 2 + 3 = 5. RAVI reduces to 5.

Exercise

Reduce the name MEERA to a single digit.

Self-check: M = 4, E = 5, E = 5, R = 9, A = 1. Total 24, and 2 + 4 = 6.

Lesson 2: Your Life Path number (Mulank and Bhagyank)

Goal: calculate the Life Path number, the number numerologists treat as the main theme of a chart.

Method: reduce the day, the month and the year of birth separately, add the three results, then reduce again. Keep 11 and 22 unreduced if they appear (Lesson 4 explains why).

Worked example

Date of birth 14-08-1995. Day: 1 + 4 = 5. Month: 08 = 8. Year: 1 + 9 + 9 + 5 = 24, then 2 + 4 = 6. Add: 5 + 8 + 6 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1. Life Path 1.

Indian numerology uses two related numbers. Mulank (birth number) is the day reduced: 14 gives 5. Bhagyank (destiny number) is all the digits of the date added together: 1 + 4 + 0 + 8 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 5 = 37, then 10, then 1. Here Bhagyank matches the Life Path, which is usual because both use every digit. Check your own answer with the free numerology calculator; if you get a different master number, the tool may reduce in a different order, which is a known difference between methods. Find the Life Path number and Mulank for 07-03-1988.

Self-check: Day 7, month 3, year 1 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 26, then 8. Add 7 + 3 + 8 = 18, then 9. Life Path 9. Mulank 7.

Lesson 3: Name numbers - Expression and Soul Urge

Goal: calculate the two main name numbers.

Method: the Expression number (also called Destiny) adds every letter of the full birth name. The Soul Urge number adds only the vowels (A, E, I, O, U). The consonants alone give the Personality number. Add the values of all the letters in the full birth name, then reduce the total. Some numerologists reduce each name part first, which can give different master or karmic results.

Worked example

RAVI KUMAR. RAVI = 9 + 1 + 4 + 9 = 23. KUMAR = 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 9 = 19. Full name total 42, reduced to 6, so the Expression number is 6. Vowels A, I, U, A = 1 + 9 + 3 + 1 = 14, reduced to 5, so the Soul Urge number is 5. Consonants R, V, K, M, R = 9 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 9 = 28, reduced to 10 and then 1, so the Personality number is 1. Check: vowels (14) plus consonants (28) equal the full total (42). Traditional meanings are summarised in Destiny number meanings.

Exercise

Find the Expression number and Soul Urge number for ANU SHAH.

Self-check: ANU = 1 + 5 + 3 = 9. SHAH = 1 + 8 + 1 + 8 = 18. Total 27, reduced to 9: Expression 9. Vowels A, U, A = 1 + 3 + 1 = 5: Soul Urge 5.

Lesson 4: Master numbers and karmic debt numbers

Goal: spot the two-digit totals that numerologists do not simply reduce.

Method: Master numbers are 11 and 22, and 33 in some traditions. When a total reaches one of them, many numerologists stop and record it as 11, 22 or 33 rather than reducing to 2, 4 or 6. Karmic Debt numbers are 13, 14, 16 and 19. They are not kept as final numbers; instead, numerologists note them when they appear as the total just before the final digit, and write the result as 14/5 or 19/1.

Worked example: in Lesson 3, RAVI KUMAR's Soul Urge total was 14 before it reduced to 5, so it is written 14/5 and flagged as a karmic debt number. In Lesson 2, the Life Path total for 14-08-1995 passed through 19 before reaching 1, so some numerologists write it 19/1. The Auravixa calculator flags karmic debt numbers automatically. Exercise

Find the Personality number (consonants only) for ANU SHAH and say whether it is a master number.

Self-check: N, S, H, H = 5 + 1 + 8 + 8 = 22. It is master number 22; systems that do not keep master numbers reduce it to 4.

Lesson 5: The Lo Shu Grid

Goal: build a Lo Shu Grid from a date of birth and read which numbers are present or missing.

Method: the Lo Shu Square is the unique normal magic square of order three: every row, column and diagonal adds up to 15. Draw the 3 x 3 layout below, then write each digit of the date of birth into its box. Ignore zeros. A digit that appears twice goes in its box twice. Many Indian numerologists also add the Mulank and Bhagyank, so practice varies; this lesson uses the birth-date digits only.

Worked example: 14-08-1995 has the digits 1, 4, 0, 8, 1, 9, 9, 5. Drop the 0. The grid shows 1 twice, 4 once, 5 once, 8 once and 9 twice. The missing numbers are 2, 3, 6 and 7. Numerologists read patterns in the filled and empty boxes; those readings are summarised in Lo Shu Grid numerology, and the point of this lesson is building the grid correctly.

Exercise

Build the grid for 07-03-1988 and list the missing numbers.

Self-check: digits 7, 3, 1, 9, 8, 8 (zeros dropped). Present: 1, 3, 7, 8 (twice), 9. Missing: 2, 4, 5, 6.

Lesson 6: Cycles - Personal Year and Pinnacles

Goal: calculate the number numerologists assign to the current year for you, and understand Pinnacle cycles.

Method: the Personal Year number is the birth day plus the birth month plus the current calendar year, each reduced, then added and reduced again. Some numerologists switch to the new personal year on your birthday instead of 1 January, so tools can differ around that date.

Worked example

Birthday 14 August, year 2026. Day 14 gives 5. Month 8. Year 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10, then 1. Add 5 + 8 + 1 = 14, then 5. Personal Year number 5 for 2026. Check it with the personal year tool.

Pinnacle cycles are four long phases of life in numerology. A common Pythagorean method takes the reduced month, day and year of birth: first pinnacle = month + day, second = day + year, third = first + second, fourth = month + year. For 14-08-1995 (month 8, day 5, year 6) that gives 13 reduced to 4, then 11, then 4 + 11 = 15 reduced to 6, then 14 reduced to 5. The age ranges attached to each pinnacle depend on the method, so use the calculator's output rather than memorising them.

Exercise

Find the Personal Year number in 2027 for someone born on 7 March.

Self-check: 7 + 3 + (2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11, reduced to 2) = 12, then 3. Personal Year 3.

Lesson 7: Compatibility and putting a reading together

Goal: compare two charts and write a one-page reading of your own.

Method: numerology compatibility traditionally compares Life Path numbers first, then Expression and Soul Urge numbers. Treat it as a tradition to explore, not relationship advice.

Worked example: from the earlier lessons, 14-08-1995 has Life Path 1 and 07-03-1988 has Life Path 9. Enter both into the compatibility tool to see how tradition reads the pair, then compare Soul Urge numbers the same way.

Certificates: what they are worth

Some platforms offer a certificate for completing a free numerology course, sometimes for a fee. We found no evidence that any free numerology certificate is professionally recognised, so treat one as a personal record of completion rather than a qualification. What proves you understand numerology is being able to calculate a chart correctly, which is exactly what the exercises above test.

A 7-day study plan

Four mistakes cause most wrong answers in the exercises. First, using a nickname or married name when the lesson asks for the full birth name; run other names separately if you are curious, but keep them apart. Second, reducing the whole date as one long string in one method and part by part in another, then comparing the two; pick one order and stick to it. Third, forgetting to stop at 11 or 22 when your method keeps master numbers. Fourth, counting a zero in the Lo Shu Grid. If your result differs from the calculator, check these four points before anything else, and note which method the tool uses.

After day 7, repeat the exercises with new names and dates until you can do a full chart without the chart in front of you. That is the practical test of whether the method has stuck. Keep the belief-system framing in mind throughout: numerology offers traditional interpretations, and no number decides your health, relationships or finances.
