Numerology for Business: Name, Date & Numbers

A By Auravixa Editorial· Updated 2026-10-18·8 min read

Key takeaways

Numerology for business looks at four numbers: the business name, the launch or incorporation date, the phone number and the premises number. Some practitioners, such as Astroyogi, also check product names. Most guides give the name and the date the most attention. It is a belief system, so use it to choose between options that are otherwise equal, never instead of due diligence.

Most guides on this topic only cover the name. That leaves founders with practical questions nobody answers. Which date counts as the company's birthday? What do you do when the name and the date disagree? And which checks matter more than any number? This guide maps the whole set, shows how each number is calculated, compares what different sources claim, and ends with the checks you should do first. To test shortlisted names quickly, the free business numerology calculator on Auravixa scores up to three names side by side, with no sign-up.

How numerology for business works

Numerology is generally described as the belief that numbers have a mystical relationship with events and ideas. In business practice, every number linked to the firm is reduced to a single digit from 1 to 9 (some systems keep the master numbers 11, 22 and 33), and that digit is read through a planet or meaning. Indian practitioners usually connect the digits to the Navagraha, the nine planetary bodies of Hindu astrology.

The four numbers, plus the optional product names, work like this:

Colour often appears in business numerology articles, but it is not a number and none of our sources treats it as one, so it is left out of this list.

The business name number (short version)

Your name number comes from converting each letter of your brand name into a value and reducing the total. Two letter charts dominate. The Pythagorean chart, named after the tradition of Pythagoreanism, numbers the alphabet 1 to 9 in order. Chaldean numerology uses a different chart built around sound. They often give different answers for the same word: GoDaddy India's guide (updated July 2025) shows APPLE totalling 23, which reduces to 5, in the Pythagorean system and 25, which reduces to 7, in the Chaldean system.

So the first rule is to pick one system and use it for every name you compare. The Auravixa calculator uses Pythagorean letter values and reduces to 1 to 9 or to master numbers 11, 22 and 33. For the full letter chart, the step-by-step calculation and how to adjust a spelling, read our brand name numerology guide, which covers the name in depth.

Which date is your business's birth date?

This is the question most guides skip. A person has one date of birth. A business can have several candidate dates: the date on its certificate of incorporation, the opening or inauguration day, and other registration dates. Numerologists do not agree on which to use, so it helps to know what each date actually is.

Incorporation date on the certificate

For a company registered in India, the law gives a clear answer about when it legally comes into existence. Under the Companies Act, 2013, Section 7(2), the Registrar of Companies issues a certificate of incorporation. Section 7(3) says that on and from the date mentioned in that certificate, the Registrar allots the company a Corporate Identity Number (CIN). Section 9 goes further: from the date of incorporation mentioned in the certificate, the subscribers become a body corporate. Company registration runs through the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

That makes the date on the certificate the most defensible "birth date" for a company. If you want a numerology-friendly date, the only real lever is when you file, because you do not choose the exact date the certificate shows.

Opening or inauguration day

Many shops, sole proprietorships and partnerships never receive a certificate of incorporation, and many owners feel the business truly begins the day the shutters open and the first customer is served. Astroyogi lists an auspicious inauguration date as one of the things corporate numerology is used for. This date is fully in your hands, which is why it is the one most families plan around.

Whichever you pick, use it consistently. Switching between the certificate date and the opening date until you find a "better" number defeats the purpose of the method.

Calculating a date number (worked example)

Suppose a private limited company's certificate of incorporation shows 12 December 2026, and the owners plan to open their first outlet on 15 January 2027.

The same business now has two date numbers, 7 and 9. This is normal, and it is exactly why you need to decide in advance which date you will treat as the birth date.

Launch date: numerology vs muhurat

Numerology and muhurat are often confused, but they answer different questions. Numerology reduces a calendar date to a single digit. A muhurat comes from Hindu timekeeping: a Muhurta is a unit of time that the Brahmanas define as one-thirtieth of a day, or 48 minutes. Choosing a muhurat means picking an auspicious window within a day using the Panchang elements of Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana.

In practice, many founders combine the two. They first shortlist dates whose digits suit the business name number, then look for a good window on those dates. The Auravixa Muhurat Finder has a "New Business" option for exactly this, which saves you from reading a Panchang yourself. If a muhurat and a numerology date conflict, there is no fixed rule for which wins; follow the tradition your family already uses.

Phone and premises numbers

A business phone number is reduced exactly like an account number. Take 9123456780: 9 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 0 = 45, then 4 + 5 = 9. The Auravixa lucky number tool has a Business Number input that ignores spaces and does this for you. Astroyogi names the company phone number as one of the numbers corporate numerology considers, so if you are choosing between several available numbers at the same price, comparing their digital roots is a harmless tie-breaker.

Premises numbers work the same way. A shop at number 214 reduces to 2 + 1 + 4 = 7. Here numerology overlaps with Vastu shastra, the traditional Indian system of architecture, which looks at direction, entrance and layout rather than digits. If you are weighing a shop or office location, our guide to vastu numerology for shops and offices covers how the two are combined. Location, rent, visibility and footfall should still decide the shortlist.

Numerology is also separate from devotional customs some owners follow, such as honouring Kubera, the Hindu god of wealth. Both are matters of faith, and neither replaces the commercial basics.

When the numbers disagree

Sooner or later your name, date and phone numbers will point in different directions. Practitioner sources do not even agree on the rules for resolving this. The table shows where three sources differ.

A few practical rules follow from that disagreement:

Checks that matter more than numbers

A name with a perfect number is worthless if you cannot legally use it. Before you fall in love with a name, check whether a similar mark is already registered by running it through the IP India trade mark public search, which searches the Trade Marks Registry. GoDaddy's own guide makes the same point, recommending founders check domain availability and trademark conflicts. If you are incorporating, you will also need to check name availability with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Our brand name guide walks through these steps in more detail, and a qualified professional should advise on anything legal.

Keep the evidence in perspective too. There is no study showing that a business name, date or phone number changes revenue or survival rates. Number readings often feel accurate because of the Barnum effect, the tendency to rate vague, general descriptions as highly accurate for ourselves. Auravixa's own business name tool describes numerology as "a metaphysical discipline rather than a science", and that is the right spirit in which to use it.

Used sensibly, numerology for business is a finishing touch: a way to choose between two available names, two equal phone numbers or two possible opening days. Shortlist names that are legally clear and memorable, test them in the calculator, pick your launch window in the Muhurat Finder, and put your real energy into the product, the customers and the cash flow.

Frequently asked questions

How is numerology used for a business?

Practitioners reduce the business name, the launch or incorporation date, the phone number and the premises number to single digits and read each through a planet or meaning. Some, such as Astroyogi, also check product names. It is a belief system, not a predictor of success.

Which date counts as a company's birth date in numerology?

For an Indian company, the strongest candidate is the date on the certificate of incorporation, because Section 9 of the Companies Act, 2013 makes the company a body corporate from that date. Shops and firms without a certificate usually use the opening day. Pick one and use it consistently.

Is a business name number more important than the launch date?

Most guides focus on the name and the date, but sources do not agree on which comes first. Because a name can be changed before registration and a certificate date cannot, many people settle the name first and then choose a launch window.

Which numbers are considered good or risky for a new business?

Views differ. Astroyogi describes 4 and 8 as unpredictable, and GoDaddy India advises new businesses to avoid expression number 8, while Chinese tradition considers 8 lucky. None of these claims is backed by evidence, so treat them as opinion.

Should I change my business name for numerology?

Only if the change is small, the new name is still clear and memorable, and it passes a trade mark search and domain check. Never drop a legally safe, strong name for a weaker one purely because of its number.
