Vedic Numerology Books: 6 English Titles Compared
Key takeaways
- Six English Vedic numerology books are compared: Johari, Avasthi, Avancha, Dhal, Bhatia and Dr Manoj Kumar.
- Johari's 1990 Inner Traditions title is the oldest of the six with a confirmed publication date.
- Vedic books tie numbers 1-9 to planets and use the Mulank, Bhagyank and remedies.
- Avancha (128 pages) and Dhal (140 pages) are the shortest starting points by listed length.
- Avoid free PDF scans; Kindle, Apple Books, Google Books and libraries are the legal routes.
If you want a Vedic numerology book in English, six titles are worth comparing: Harish Johari's Numerology: With Tantra, Ayurveda, and Astrology (1990), Saurabh Avasthi's Vedic Numerology - Ank Jyotish (2023), Krishna Mohan Avancha's Vedic Numerology (2024), Amulya Dhal's Vedic Numerologist (2024), Ashok Bhatia's Vedic Astro Numerology and Dr Manoj Kumar's Comprehensive Vedic Numerology (2025).
Johari's book, published by Inner Traditions, is the oldest of the six with a confirmed publication date; Bhatia's listing gives no year. The newer titles lean towards practical material such as remedies, compatibility and, in Dhal's case, the Dasha system. This comparison is built from publisher and retailer listings as of October 2026, not from reading or testing the books, so every detail below is what the listings state.
Vedic numerology books at a glance
Search a bookshop for "Vedic numerology" and you get a wall of near-identical titles. The table below separates them by author, publisher, year, length and the listed price seen on 2 October 2026. Prices change by seller and edition, so treat them as a guide, not a quote.
| Book | Author | Publisher | Year | Pages (approx.) | Listed price seen (2 Oct 2026) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Numerology: With Tantra, Ayurveda, and Astrology | Harish Johari | Inner Traditions | 1990 (Revised and Expanded Edition) | About 200 | Not recorded | Readers who want the planetary and Tantric background |
| Vedic Numerology - Ank Jyotish | Saurabh Avasthi | Notion Press | October 2023 | 374 | Rs 599 (MRP Rs 669, Bookscape) | Readers who also want other systems compared |
| Vedic Numerology | Krishna Mohan Avancha | Independently published | 2024 | 128 | Not recorded | A short first read |
| Vedic Numerologist | Amulya Dhal | Published by the author | 14 Feb 2024 | 140 | Not recorded | Readers interested in Dasha timing and applied numerology |
| Vedic Astro Numerology | Ashok Bhatia | Sagar Publications | Not stated on listing | About 300 | Rs 599 (list Rs 700, Bookkish) | Readers who know Cheiro and want an Indian astro-numerology view |
| Comprehensive Vedic Numerology (2 volumes) | Dr Manoj Kumar | Alpha Publications | 2025 | 549 (both volumes) | Rs 790 incl. Rs 190 shipping (Exotic India) | A reference set covering many topics |
None of these six appears on our numerology books list, which covers the Western and Cheiro classics. If you are still deciding between systems, start there; if you already know you want the Indian approach, the rest of this page is for you.
Two page counts are rounded on purpose. Johari's book appears as 194 pages on one retailer page and 208 on another; Bhatia's appears as 311 and 325. Listings disagree, so "about 200" and "about 300" are the honest figures.
What makes a numerology book 'Vedic'?
Numerology is a belief system, not a science. The Hindi term for it, Ank Jyotish, means "number astrology", and that name points to the main difference: a Vedic numerology book ties each number to a planet and reads the number much as an astrologer reads that planet. A book that offers only letter charts and personality sketches is working in the Western tradition, whatever its cover says.
Numbers 1-9 and the planets
Indian numerologists commonly link 1 to the Sun, 2 to the Moon, 3 to Jupiter, 5 to Mercury, 6 to Venus, 8 to Saturn and 9 to Mars. For 4 and 7, most Indian sources assign Rahu and Ketu, while Western-influenced charts such as jumaani.com use Uranus and Neptune. Check which pair a book uses before you buy, because it changes how numbers 4 and 7 are read. We cover each number's planet in our guide to Indian numerology numbers 1-9, so this page does not repeat it.
Mulank, Bhagyank and the name number
Vedic books work with two date-based numbers. The Mulank is the birth-day number (Johari calls it the psychic number), and the Bhagyank is the destiny number taken from the full date of birth. Most books then add a name number. A Vedic book should explain how these three interact rather than treating each in isolation.
Remedies, colours and gemstones
The third marker is remedies. Johari's listing mentions favourable colours, gemstones and mantras or meditations, and Dr Manoj Kumar's set includes lucky colours and a remedies chapter. Johari also uses the Vedic Square, and his book is illustrated with 81 basic Vedic squares. If a book has none of these elements, it is probably not working in the Indian tradition.
The 6 books, one by one
Each profile summarises what the listing says the book covers, who it may suit and any edition notes. None of it judges how well the book is written.
Numerology: With Tantra, Ayurveda, and Astrology - Harish Johari
Harish Johari (1934-1999) was a North Indian musician, artist, gemologist, Tantric scholar and author. His numerology title was published by Inner Traditions in 1990 as a Revised and Expanded Edition (ISBN 0892812583). The listing says it explains psychic, name and destiny numbers, their relation to the nine planets, the Vedic Square, favourable colours, gemstones, mantras and meditations, and strong and weak periods in a person's life. It is illustrated with 81 basic Vedic squares.
Who it suits: readers who want the reasoning behind the planet links, drawn from Tantra and Ayurveda as the title says. It is the only title here whose listing mentions the Vedic Square.
Vedic Numerology - Ank Jyotish - Saurabh Avasthi
The full title is Vedic Numerology - Ank Jyotish: The Proven Methodology to Accurate Prediction, published by Notion Press in October 2023 as a 374-page paperback (ISBN 9798891860261). Bookscape listed it at Rs 599 against an MRP of Rs 669. According to the listing, it discusses the Pythagorean, Chaldean, Kabbalah and Chinese systems and includes a section on the limitations of numerology.
Who it suits: readers who want to see where the Vedic method sits among other systems. The limitations section is unusual for the genre, although the subtitle's promise of "accurate prediction" is the publisher's wording, not ours.
Vedic Numerology - Krishna Mohan Avancha
Krishna Mohan Avancha's Vedic Numerology is an independently published 2024 English paperback of 128 pages (ISBN 9798305212181). The author had previously published Indian Numerology, and this book belongs to his numerology series. The listing gives little detail about chapters.
Who it suits: someone who wants a short book before committing to a longer one. Because the contents are not listed, look at the preview on the retailer page before buying.
Vedic Numerologist - Amulya Dhal
Amulya Dhal's Vedic Numerologist was published by the author on 14 February 2024 and runs to 140 pages. Its Google Books page lists basic and destiny numbers, Vedic Yogas, the Dasha system, numerology for health, business, travel and real estate, relationships, and remedies.
Who it suits: readers who already know their core numbers and want applied topics. It is the only title of the six whose listing names the Dasha system, the Vedic method of dividing life into planetary periods.
Vedic Astro Numerology - Ashok Bhatia
Ashok Bhatia's Vedic Astro Numerology (English edition) is published by Sagar Publications (ISBN 9788170821526). Bookkish listed it at Rs 599 against a list price of Rs 700, at about 300 pages. The listing says it discusses Cheiro and Sepharial and includes methods for finding lost articles. The publication year is not given on the listing we used.
Who it suits: readers coming from Cheiro's books who want an Indian astro-numerology treatment alongside them.
Comprehensive Vedic Numerology - Dr Manoj Kumar
Dr Manoj Kumar's Comprehensive Vedic Numerology is a two-volume English paperback set from Alpha Publications (2025), 549 pages in total, listed on Exotic India at Rs 790 including Rs 190 shipping and handling. Volume I covers history, numbers 1-9, Moolank (another spelling of Mulank), compound numbers and name changes. Volume II covers Kabala, first letters, marriage compatibility, lucky colours, money numbers, predictions, remedies and a chapter on lottery prediction.
Who it suits: readers who want a broad reference set. A caution on the lottery chapter: no numerology method predicts lottery results, and nothing in a book should be read as a reason to gamble.
Which topics each book covers
This matrix uses only what each listing states. "Not listed" means the listing is silent, not that the book lacks the topic; check the contents page or preview.

Vedic vs Chaldean vs Pythagorean numerology books
Two other traditions fill most English numerology shelves. Chaldean numerology is closely associated with Cheiro, the pen name of William John Warner (1866-1936), who claimed to have learned his occult skills in India. Pythagorean numerology is the other main Western letter system. Both centre on letter values and personality profiles.
A Vedic book differs in emphasis rather than in arithmetic: it reads numbers through their planets, uses the Mulank and Bhagyank, and usually ends with remedies. Several of the six titles mix traditions anyway. Avasthi compares four systems, Bhatia discusses Cheiro and Sepharial, and Manoj Kumar includes Kabala. If you want the letter-value differences explained, our comparison of Chaldean vs Pythagorean numerology covers them. Hindi-language Ank Jyotish titles are a separate shelf, covered in our guide to numerology books in Hindi.
How to choose, and a reading order
These suggestions follow from each book's listed scope and length. They are a way to sequence the titles, not a ranking.
If you are new
Start with a short book. Avancha's 128 pages or Dhal's 140 pages are the lightest of the six. Dhal's has the advantage of a published topic list, so you know what you are getting. Work out your own Mulank and Bhagyank as you read; Auravixa's free numerology calculator can produce your core numbers to check your arithmetic.
If you already know Mulank and Bhagyank
Move to Johari for the planetary reasoning and the Vedic Square, then to Avasthi if you want to see how the Vedic method compares with Pythagorean, Chaldean, Kabbalah and Chinese systems, and to read his section on the limitations of numerology.
If you want a reference shelf
Dr Manoj Kumar's two volumes cover the widest range of listed topics, from compound numbers to marriage compatibility. Bhatia's book suits readers who keep Cheiro on the shelf and want an Indian astro-numerology view next to it.
Buying or borrowing legally: e-book, PDF, library
Searches for a "Vedic numerology book PDF free download" mostly lead to unauthorised scans. Beyond the legal problem, you have no way of knowing which edition a scan comes from or whether pages are missing.
Legal digital options exist for some of these titles. Saurabh Avasthi's book has a Kindle edition (Notion Press, July 2024) and an Apple Books edition. Krishna Mohan Avancha's Vedic Numerology has a Kindle edition as part of his numerology series. Amulya Dhal's book has a Google Books listing; check there whether a preview or e-book is offered. For the others, check Kindle, Apple Books and Google Play Books, or ask a local library to order a copy.
| Book | Digital edition seen | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Avasthi, Vedic Numerology - Ank Jyotish | Kindle (July 2024), Apple Books | Amazon Kindle store, Apple Books |
| Avancha, Vedic Numerology | Kindle | Amazon Kindle store |
| Dhal, Vedic Numerologist | Not confirmed (Google Books listing exists) | Google Books |

What numerology can and cannot do
Wikipedia's entry on numerology describes numerology as the belief in an occult, divine or mystical relationship between a number and metaphysical phenomena or ideas. That framing applies to every title here. A Vedic numerology book can give you a structured vocabulary for reflection, a tradition to study and a way to think about names and dates. It cannot predict events with certainty, replace medical, financial or legal advice, or tell you what to do.
Read these books as you would any interpretive tradition: with curiosity, a notebook and some scepticism. Where two authors disagree, note the difference instead of picking a winner. If a book promises guaranteed results, put it down.
Frequently asked questions
Which Vedic numerology book is best for beginners?
No single book is best for everyone. By listed length, Krishna Mohan Avancha's Vedic Numerology (128 pages) and Amulya Dhal's Vedic Numerologist (140 pages) are the shortest of the six English titles, and Dhal's listing gives a clear topic list. Harish Johari's book is a good second read for the planetary background.
What is the difference between Vedic and Chaldean numerology?
Vedic (Indian) numerology links numbers 1-9 to planets and works with the Mulank and Bhagyank, often adding remedies such as colours and gemstones. Chaldean numerology, popularised in English by Cheiro, focuses on letter values and personality readings.
Is Harish Johari's Numerology still available?
Yes. Numerology: With Tantra, Ayurveda, and Astrology was listed by retailers in October 2026 in the Inner Traditions Revised and Expanded Edition (ISBN 0892812583). Page counts differ between listings, at roughly 200 pages.
Can I get a Vedic numerology book PDF free and legally?
Free PDFs of these titles are usually unauthorised scans. Legal digital options include the Kindle and Apple Books editions of Saurabh Avasthi's book and the Kindle edition of Krishna Mohan Avancha's book; Amulya Dhal's book has a Google Books listing worth checking for a preview. A library can also order a print copy.
Do Vedic numerology books include remedies?
Many do. Johari's listing mentions colours, gemstones and mantras, Dhal's lists remedies, and Dr Manoj Kumar's set includes remedies and lucky colours. Treat remedies as part of a belief tradition, not as guaranteed fixes.
